El Remanso Rainforest Wildlife Lodge is located on the Osa Peninsula, in the southwest corner of Costa Rica. We are halfway between Puerto Jimenez (22 kilometers) and Carate on the road to Corcovado National Park, on the Pacific side of the Peninsula just around the corner from Golfo Dulce.
If you choose to fly to El Remanso, the closest airport is in Puerto Jiménez. We offer the service of purchasing your domestic flights matching your international arrivals or layover in San José and if you choose an El Remanso package the flight is included in the package. From Puerto Jiménez we typically pick you up in our 4x4 vehicles and take you along the 45 min drive to the southwestern side of the Osa Peninsula, where the El Remanso Lodge lies.
If you prefer to come to us with your own vehicle, these are the directions driving from San José:
In order to drive from San José to El Remanso, you need start by taking the freeway 27 towards Jacó. It will take you around one hour and a half to drive from San Jose to Jacó. From there continue on the coastal freeway (called “Pacifica Fernandez”, known as “Costanera”) until you reach Palmar Sur, which should take you two and a half hours. On the way from Jaco to Palmar Sur, you will pass Parrita, Quepos, and Dominical. Make sure that, as you pass these towns, you stay on the coastal freeway until you reach Palmar Sur.
In Palmar Sur, you will cross a large iron bridge over the "Terraba river" and continue on the “Interamericana” freeway to Chacarita (30 minutes). In Chacarita, you will see a big service station on your right and there will be a sign indicating Puerto Jimenez. Take that right turn after the service station and you will reach Puerto Jimenez in approximately 1.5 hours.
Once you reach Puerto Jimenez, you are almost here! Take the dirt road that is between the local supermarket called “BM” and the gas station (the road goes towards Carate) and drive for around 45 minutes to 1 hour. The entrance of the hotel will be on your left side!
It is a bumpy road and you will have to cross two creeks on the way, so, in order to be safe, we recommend that you drive slowly and are cautious. After the first creek, right hand you will see a school right-hand side (Carbonera Primary School). You will only have 4 km more to go but that short road is quite hilly, as you will be entering the forest.
We strongly advise you to arrive to El Remanso before dark as the drive is much nicer and easier with day light. From December to April, we recommend that you get to El Remanso by 5pm at the latest, and the rest of the year, by 4 pm.
If possible, please let us know approximately what time you are planning to arrive to El Remanso! You can reach us at (+506) 2735 55 69 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
